You want me to do what?

Meet Marc and Lori
(and.... the precious and oh so smart Addy)

A few months ago Marc contacted me about wanting to surprise Lori with a bedroom makeover. (Brownie points for Mr. Marc right?)
He had been considering hiring the real deal (a real designer, with real education, and a real hourly wage;)
Mr. Marc decided instead to ask me if I wanted to help because he said "we always like the way you guys decorate" and I said uh...."well I'm honored and blushing and am absolutely uncomfortable with you paying me to help you do something that I will probably stumble through." This is not word for word of course but you get my drift right?
They wanted to "hire" me and I wasn't sure if I could
One: Find the time to help or
Two: Accomplish the goal and have a happy Lori
BUT..
We are going for it! I have absolutely no problem buying things to put in my own home but the pressure to "make a house a home" for someone else is actually what helped me steer away from an interior design degree and instead go with the oh so concrete end results of a degree in Dental Hygiene(yes there is such a thing;)

So do you want to stumble through this with me?  I mean how could I say no to some online and in person shopping trips for a friend!

We kinda sorta live in the same town but it is quite a road trip and trying to find a time to meet up when the traffic isn't bad or when I don't have my three chillins isn't easy so we have for the most part done a lot of virtual design.

So first off I had them send me some pics.

This is what you see when you walk into their HUGE bedroom.
There are two large windows on the left with about 6 feet in between them and to the right of the bed there is a wall at an angle and then a fairly large wall that runs parallel with the bed.

Standing near the foot of the bed you see this.  There is one of the windows I mentioned.  This is a great little nook for a chair or two.  That door there leads into their master bath.

Marc also sent me some close ups of the furniture they had so we could decide if we could use it or not.

This is what is on the angled wall near the bed.

So here is where the fun starts for me!  After Lori mentioned a paint color that she had been eyeing
Sherwin Williams Inkwell
Dramatic Huh?

and a duvet cover from West Elm she had in mind...

then I attempted to find something similar for a mood board and started pulling some things together that I hoped she might like.  We didn't really discuss much in the beginning.  I just took her color choice and ran with it to see if I could get an idea about what she liked.

I of course also encouraged her to "pin" away at things she likes so I could get a feel for her style.
Then I "pinned" away myself!
Which by the way if you haven't started your addiction yet then just contact me via my little envelope button with "pin me" in the subject line and I will be your "dealer" and send you an invite;)

Here are some things I started pinning

Isn't Pinterest awesome!(not a question...a fact indeed)  It is so great that I can pin something and she can go right to the link and buy it if she likes it.  Shopping is becoming way too easy!  Anywho...after she o.k.'d the look that I came up with we met up to buy the duvet and check out her sample of the paint color and she went home and went to town......I am so excited and nervous to see how this all turns out.  It has been slow going for sure(like I was afraid of) but we will get it done!  More coming soon....

Girls Just Wanna Have Fun

So here we are...Somewhat at a stand still.  The house has been all tidied up for the market and I don't need to spend another dime on decorating of any sort so I will pretend!
When we move the girls will be sharing a room.  Now keep in mind they are 1 1/2 and 3 1/2 so I may be going a little overboard with the mood board but they are too much fun to throw together.  Unfortunately as usually my brain is all over the place when thinking about how I want to do the girls room.  I figure this will be my one and only chance to do it without lots of opinions from them so I should just go for it. I am really drawn to red/turquoise and pink/turquoise combos but I am also loving gray/yellow and then flat out beachy beigey neutral looks.  Who knows where it will end up.  Actually I am sure it will end up not being decorated for a long time.  Until that is I find a couple of great comforters at a great price at Marshals or something and then I will just go that route because that is how I roll..No plan..just buy it if I like it and it is cheap enough kind of decorating.   So if I could go out and decorate their room today with no limit on budget...this is how it would turn out.

I threw a lot of what I am liking these days in there.  Mix matched furniture and pillows. Ruffles, rustic and new, classic and chippy with a little mod and definitely a splash of bold.
You know what is funny?  A while back I did the same thing for my pretend living room and look what I chose.
Same exact floors...and very possibly the same wall color although I think the one in the girls room is brighter.  I guess I am more consistent than I think;)!

Window Shopping

How do you go about decorating your spaces?  Do you go out and try to pick out everything, have a big shopping extravaganza and then play with it when you get it all home?  Did I get a lot of "yea rights" out there?  That really only happens on H.G.T.V.
So if you could go on a huge shopping spree would you feel totally overwhelmed?  I know I would and that is exactly how I felt when I was trying to put together an inspiration board for our future living room.

So here is what I came up with..I LOVE LOVE the " let's stay home" sign that I found on pininterest which is from Etsy but they didn't have the store listed so I will have to look into that! This was a little difficult for me because I just don't ever decorate a space all at once..If I see something and it is cheap enough, I have room for it and love it THEN I get it.  Actually most of the time I end up taking it back because I realize we just don't need it(we actually don't NEED any of this but it is a fun hobby anyway).  Drives the hubby crazy I know but thankfully he tolerates my sporadic decorating challenges and he goes with it.

That being said..this is "sort of" the look I want to go for..We will keep our current rug shown here but I couldn't find it so I went with this version.  I am also not so sure I want a gray sofa anymore.  Maybe a color closer to the leather accent chairs and then have gray on the accent chairs but overall the color scheme is what I am into right now..(this changes often) so who knows where my mind will be when we actually move in to the new casa.  As for paint...ehhh these colors may work but honestly we might go white or the taupe gray that we have in our current living room.  I have never been a white wall kind of girl but I am craving bright and airy spaces right now so we shall see.  Actually that is one of the reasons I get a little anxious when I think about how I am going to make a decision on kitchen cabinetry...part of me wants white and bright and part of me is afraid I will get tired of it.

I digress ....how do you go about decorating your spaces?  Have you ever put together a mood board..virtual or the real deal? Or do you just go with the flow and decorate over the months or even years?
